Around 60 billion years ago the island Ivön was an island in the late Senoic sea, whose coast during the Cretaceous period was as high as the Småland highlands. In the sea's salty water lived the gooseneck lizard, that has got the name Scanisaurus, from the county Skåne.

The fountain was constructed by the artist Gunnar Nylund and was installated in 1971. It pictures two gooseneck lizards, a male and a female, that's sun bathing on a rock on island Ivön. It is made out of around 3000 pieces of shaped ceramic, made at Iföverkens development department, and are rigged at a frame of armoured concrete.
